The Welimada Divisional Secrretriat is one of the most developed advancers in the country.the welimada divisional secretariat which is historically important is located in the Uva basin of the Uva province.The welimada Divisinal secretariat area which is located at ohiya in the Uva Province is located 1041 m above sea level.when it comes to geolinguistics , welimada plateau has been given priority.it is located on the boundary of the North by Uva Paranagama Divisional secretary's division and west by Nuwara Eliya Divisinal Secretariat division ,by East from Hali Ela and Bandarawela Divisinal Secretariats and South by Haputale and Haldummulla Divisional Secretariats.

in the identification of the background of the welimada Divisinal Secretariat ,it covers an area of 187 square kilometers.it is administered by 64 Grama Niladari divisions and the Size of the district is 6.62%.Early this area was introduced as the revenu administration division and  consisted of 18 grama niladhari divisions. 

At that time 138  old villages were in existence, and at present it consists of 268 villages.

the climate of the region is similar ti that of the Siberian climate.The temperature is about 17 degrees Celsius.Every year ,heavy winds blow from May to September.September to april is a very rainy season.from the Horton Plains to the north and south.the steams ,sreams,and streams flow eastward from the west to the slopes.among these are the tributaries of the Uma Oya.Dungolla and mathetilla.Ambewela and ohiya areas are considered as natural forests over 5000 feet in the evergreen forests.the area is woven with laterite soil.in addition ,humus-laterite soil and sludge with slude are also common.Sri lanka is home to unique Black Black Mnkeys in the Haggala,Sri lanka's most Beautiful Haggala blossom and haggala forest reserve,as well as resources in the forest Reserve,butterfy Species,rare species of birds,and rare medicinal Plants.

historically ,the divurumwela Purana viharaya ,the Kalubululanda Viharaya,the Sri Ganasakthi Murugan Devalaya as well as the keppetipola Forterss are a special place.Rama- Ravana story of  the sacred temple called "Diurumpola Purana Viharaya " is also considered as the place where Seetha Devi was Sworn in.Kalubululanda Purana Vihara build on the site of King Walagamba.the Ganasakthi Murugan Devalaya is connected to the story connected with the  katharagama  God.

 Welimada Divisional Secretariat is a multi-cultural environment.The majority is Sinhala and most of them are Bddhists.Most of the area is engaged in agriculture in the area,and the overwhelming majority of them are engaged in commercial vegetables.Framers in this area especially produce much of the required amount of vegetables in sri lanka.this area is best known for commercial farming , including potatoes and vegetables, such as carrots ,beans leeks ,cabbage ,bladders,strawberries,pears and floriculture.in addition , eucalypti cultivation has been done as a government  plantation in order  to achive the state timber requirement.

it is also important to mention here the Uma oya reservoir project  operating under the Uma oya basin.it has been designed to make the most areas of Sri lanka self - suffcient in water.in addition, development activities such as Divi Neguma, Maga Neguma ,which are functioning at the national level,have also brought to the welfare of the area physical development as well as daily living.
